It was the remarkable year of 2014, that marked 62 years of physiotherapy in India. Not many are aware but the very core of this stream of science had its onset in the year 1952, a time when Poliomyelitis a major epidemic struck the city of Mumbai leaving chaos all around the country. A year later under a joint collaborative venture between the Government of India, Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC), and the Maharashtra State Government, the first centre and school of physiotherapy was established. For this very establishment, the World Health Organization provided India with all the technical assistance and supports needed.
