ADMISSION 2025-26Dialysis treatment has been viewed as a life-sustaining therapy that aims to extend survival and improve the quality of life. However, the rigidities of dialysis treatment, psychosocial and vocational adjustments, loss of independence and functional status, and metabolic derangements as a result of kidney disease are now significant contributors to the decrease in health-related quality of life. Studies suggest that limited health literacy may negatively affect patients' well being and increase healthcare costs. Kidney patients undergoing dialysis require more health literacy and need to attend treatment sessions several days a week, follow dietary and fluid restrictions, and adhere to complex medication schedules, all of which require patients to understand and act on difficult health-related information.
